STATEMENT
The paintings you are viewing (water color/gouache and oils) originate from blind drawing. This means I look at the model and never look at the surface on which I am drawing. I try to keep my line continuous if I can, but if I have to lift my pencil off the surface, I do not look at where I again place the pencil. I try to feel where it should go. The end result of this kind of drawing creates a distorted and expressionists image, one that concentrates on the inner quality of the sitter. After the drawing is complete, I then paint it.
I find my inspiration in the personal and emotional as well as the interaction developed through self, family and community. My works are concerned with the understanding of human relationships. They do not sentimentalize but speak of the human measure and human condition. I ask the question "who am I and where am I going?"
