STATEMENT
After many years of experience with traditional forms of printmaking, I find the medium of computer manipulation of photographs intriguing. Images are scanned into a computer to be manipulated, color adjusted, and combined into an original art work. The contemporary introduction of the virtual darkroom has enabled me to integrate fleeting images of life coupled with my imagination.
I have created a series of montages combining early Twentieth Century portraits with contemporary photographs. Old photographs can inspire real or imagined recollections of the past. Each picture of a person may suggest a story, but I choose to reinvent another context for each scenario by integrating the early pictures within modern images, revealing possible histories influencing their descendants.
My interest is in the results of the juxtaposition of the past with the present, using digital technology to interpret my personal perspective of the impact of previous generations on the viewers of my illusions. Spectators are free to blend their own remembrances with the impressions I have presented to them.
Each Photographic Montage is printed on heavyweight fine art matte paper using an Epson printer and pigmented ink in an edition size of 10, plus 3 Artist's Proofs.
