STATEMENT
“For me….”Bread In The Sky” is particularly funny as well as an example of what I would call good art, albeit strangely morose. (Hildebrand-Mills likes the aesthetics of disaster!) This work updates the crude brilliance of old-fashioned collage with the application of very simple video technology. I thought it was oddly elegant.” Karen Tauches, BURNAWAY.ORG
Hollis Hildebrand-Mills has based her art career on combining collage elements and paint, and is now directing her attention to video animation.
Nationally exhibited, Hollis Hildebrand-Mills, an Atlanta artist and graduate of Moore College of Art and Design, paints spiritual painting, believing that divine imagery is everywhere. She mentored/collaborated with renowned artist Peter Forakis in Petaluma, California. She exhibits her work at Callanwolde Fine Arts Center, Atlanta, Georgia, and the former Atlanta College of Art (now Savannah College of Art and Design, SCAD) in Atlanta, Georgia. She also exhibits in Manhattan and Upstate New York, Pennsylvania, and Texas. Art Initiative Atlanta features her work.
Anne Umland, Curator, Painting & Sculpture Department, Museum of Modern Art, NY chose one of her paintings for inclusion in a juried exhibition in Chelsea, NYC. Another painting was awarded honors by Jerry Cullum, Senior Editor of Art Papers and contributor to Art in America. Unique among southern women artists, Hildebrand-Mills is in the vanguard of artists from Atlanta.
