STATEMENT
Many of the artist's pieces combine drawing, type, painting, and original photography. Her intention is to create semi-fictitious narrative images that jog the subconscious memory of the viewer. Perhaps it refers to a place that you have been to, read about or have heard of. All of her prints and images over the years have reflected interests in landscape, legend, myth, storytelling, religion and fairytale.
My mixed media prints, drawings and digital photographs combine many different materials and techniques. The gelatin monotype prints follow the ongoing theme of architecture and man made constructions and geometry versus the natural symmetry and pattern in nature. There is high color that purposefully makes them larger and more dramatic than life. The digital pigment prints with mixed media and hand drawn embellishments are altered photographs that hint at the same themes. The pieces combine drawing, and original photography. Ancient cultures and natural landscapes have always been the basis for the work. In the Altered Landscape series numerous photographs are merged to create a new altered landscape that appears real but doesn't exist. Naturally occurring symmetry within the picture is exaggerated. The themes represented are universally symbolic to all cultures.
Mary Ann Greco in the June/99 issue of Budo Magazine says of Cresson,
... I feel lucky that we have her and her artistry in our community, as well as lucky we have her as an
educator.
