STATEMENT
The narrative and symbolic aspects of images have been the focus of my work for a number of years. By juxtaposing images, in both individual works and installations, I suggest a multitude of possibilities, depending on the viewer's state of mind and experiences, rather than “tell” a story. Mixed media provides me the best medium for exploring my visual concerns. Using sculptural elements, video, and, or drawn, painted and photographic images (often coated with layers of encaustic medium), I create visual statements with both personal and public meanings. My recent work has been concerned with the interaction of the natural and human realms, both sacred and profane, and the often hidden, and evocative forms of flora and fauna. By building up and then scraping through some layers of encaustic medium, I reveal only some areas of the images more clearly. The works evoke the enigmatic nature of a dream, and imply emotional, psychological or spiritual states.
